I have implemented and supported computer systems for small businesses for over 20 years, keeping in touch with changes and trends. If you are unsure about your systems or current setup, I can assess and advise accordingly. For larger projects I may occasionally bring in additional help and expertise, although this is always discussed and agreed with the customer first.
For new and existing clients, I can advise on business broadband and router options. Many companies prefer the additional security and peace of mind of managed hardware firewall. I have a number of clients with managed services, though I am happy to support businesses with standard router and firewall combinations. I can also provide businesses with additional WiFi access on their existing networks.
Do you know where your data is, if it is being regularly backed up and is secure? Do you have adequate internet security and encryption? I can help with your backup, encryption and internet security requirements and in most instances I am able to retrieve data from failed systems.
If you take card payments via a physical terminal, through your website, software or phone app, you need to be PCI compliant. You may also be required to pass an ongoing network scan. I can assess and advise on your compliance issues and certification.
Data Processing
If you process personal data then you are required to register with the ICO as a data processor, data controller, or both. Data Breaches
If your business has suffered a data breach, or you suspect a data breach, then you may be required to inform the ICO. If personal data has been breached or has been lost or stolen and you are unsure how to proceed, I can help.
For Data Protection and GDPR requirements, businesses should have a number of written procedures in place, such as Information Data Security, Employee Use of Computers and Disaster Recovery Policy. I can help with documentation in these and other areas.
Through my own trusted service providers I can manage your domain names, email hosting and email client configuration should you require it, as well as ensuring renewals are notified and actioned on time.
If you need a website - a modern, secure and mobile responsive site may cost less than you think.
Due to Covid, business practice has changed. Post pandemic, we now have more employees working from home or requiring a mix of home and office working. There has been a push towards Cloud based products such as Office 365, together with remote access facilities to existing office systems. Enabling staff to work from home brings its own challenges, but it is achievable and may not be as costly as you think.
This project was for an existing customer who was expanding into new premises. The brief was to house all of the comms into a cabinet. I chose a mid range cabinet and the image shows it being received during building work.
Cables have been terminated to the patch panel. Network switch installed, as well as Cisco router and Netscreen firewall. I also supplied a POE switch to enable the clients telecomms supplier to install their own Cisco router for the IP phone system.
Internet, router and firewall had already been tested and the final addition was a WiFi access point. Subsequently this cabinet would also house a shared system, screen, UPS and other equipment.
This project was part of an office refurbishment for a priority customer. A small comms cabinet contained redundant items and cabling. I had to ensure any cables and services still in use were not affected, then re-assemble and tidy the cabinet and remaining cables.
Part of the refurbishment included a new central desk for reception. Network, power and other cables were secured with trunking to allow staff to work safely and comfortably.
